PARTICIPANT SAFETY
Practical safety commitments for players, parents, coaches, referees and volunteers.
Project Gabru works to create a safe, respectful environment, but basketball remains a physical sport with inherent risks.
1. PG's commitments
- Provide a respectful environment for participants.
- Set clear event and coaching expectations.
- Use reasonable safety measures appropriate to the venue and activity.
- Take injuries and safety concerns seriously and respond through the available event process.
- Expect coaches, referees and volunteers representing PG to follow the Community Code of Conduct.
2. Participants
- Follow coach, referee, venue and event instructions.
- Use appropriate sports equipment and footwear for the activity.
- Tell a coach/event official or parent/guardian about an injury, illness or safety concern as soon as possible.
- Do not intentionally engage in dangerous or abusive behaviour.
- Respect other players regardless of skill level, gender or background.
3. Parents and guardians
- Provide accurate emergency contact information during registration.
- Inform PG of relevant information that may affect safe participation where appropriate.
- Support players without interfering with coaching, officiating or other participants.
- Raise concerns through the PG team rather than confronting players, coaches or officials during an event.
4. Coaches, referees and volunteers
Adults representing PG are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with minors, communicate respectfully, avoid bullying or harassment, follow event safety procedures and report safeguarding or safety concerns through the PG team.
5. Injuries and emergencies
If an injury occurs, the immediate priority is participant safety. Event staff may pause activity, seek appropriate first aid or medical assistance and contact the registered parent/guardian or emergency contact. Parents/guardians remain responsible for providing accurate emergency information and for making appropriate medical decisions for their child.
6. Concerns and reporting
Safety, safeguarding or conduct concerns can be raised with Project Gabru through the official contact channel: hello@projectgabru.in.
